Episode Notes

Reflection Questions?

How we shift the narrative on violence in our community? What can we do? How do we develop healthier coping strategies? How do we resolve conflicts without using a gun?

Question?  What percentage of Americans own guns?

Answer: The United States has the highest percentage of gun ownership worldwide. There are 120 firearms per 100 people in the U.S., with 30% of Americans owning at least one gun and 43%. That means that the majority of gun owners own more than one firearm. According to the Pew Research Center, two-thirds of gun owners own more than one firearm, and 29% own five or more.

Boston activists say enough is enough on gun violence. What can be done?

“We are a whole city, which must be responsive to each of the neighborhoods with equal concern.”

By the numbers

Violence has impacted some of the city’s communities much more than others; out of more than 1,700 fatal and non-fatal shootings logged citywide since 2015, more than 1,300 of the victims were Black or African American, according to Boston Police Department data

Nearly three-quarters of the shootings happened in Dorchester, Roxbury, or Mattapan.
